What we collect, why, and what you can ask us to do with it. In plain English.
Who we are
Hibana is a map of small, spontaneous plans in London, run by Aswin and Kaushik. We decide how your information is used, so we are responsible for it. For anything about your data, email team@joinhibana.com.
What we collect
- Your account: your email address, the name you choose, your X handle if you add it, and your settings, such as alerts and theme.
- Plans you post: what, where, when and how many spots. Plans are public. The exact meeting point is shown only to people who join.
- Plans you join: the host and the other people going see your name.
- Posts that tag @HeyHibana on X: we read the public post and your handle to put the plan on the map.
- Notifications: if you turn on phone notifications or connect Telegram, we keep what we need to reach you there.
- Reports and blocks you make, so we can act on them.
- Basic usage: simple events such as a plan being viewed or joined, linked to your account if you are signed in. We use these to see what works. There are no advertising trackers.
What we don't collect
We never ask for your live location. Plans are always in public places, never a home address. We don't sell your information or use it for advertising.
Why we use it
- To run the service you signed up for: showing plans, letting people join, and telling you when something changes.
- To keep people safe: reviewing first plans and reports, and removing people who break the rules.
- To improve Hibana, using the usage events above.
Who helps us run it
We use a few services to run Hibana. They handle your information only to do that job for us:
- Supabase: our database and sign-in.
- Vercel: hosts the website.
- Resend: sends our emails.
- Anthropic: reads the sentence you write when posting a plan, to fill in the form for you.
- Telegram: only if you connect our Telegram bot.
- OpenFreeMap: supplies the map. Your browser loads map images from them directly.
How long we keep it
Plans close when their time is up. Plans that happened can stay on the map as a record. We keep your account until you ask us to delete it. Then we delete your account and the plans you posted.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your information, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Email team@joinhibana.com. We'll reply within a month. If you're unhappy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Safety
Hibana is for people aged 18 and over. To report a plan or a person, use Report on the plan page, or email team@joinhibana.com.
Changes
If we change how we use your information, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
